In your opinion, what does it take to be a good artist? Is it something decided by self or would one be constantly subjected to the whims of everyone else?

Being surrounded by hot naked girls in a tropical environment all throughout one's childhood.

And, having friends with the letter K occupying a prominent place in their name.

Well the theories and ideas that go into determining skill are not always the ones that go into determining what a good artist is. It seems to me that history has shown us to look ahead, find the newest most non-institution thing and declare that that... is true art. Then again, there are plenty of people who subscribe to the classic schools of art, and refuse to admit talent in the artist unless they adhere to very specific guidelines such as composition or subject matter, technique or medium. Where Duchamp was able to find his way into the annals of art history by skrawling his name on a urinal, Monet, Van Goh and Picasso used new and unique approaches to painting to make their mark. I, for one, have always looked to skill and innovation, but I will never be so full of myself to assume that my tastes are idicative of "the one true acceptable art form." It all comes down to opinion, and opinion is always always swayed by societies acceptances and mob mentality.

That's where I stand on the subject :)
